I’ve been to Birmingham a few times; the first time I went I was about 20, I took Ant and Dec on a breakfast show as part of work experience and ended up partying the night away in the Metropole hotel singing round a piano with the (then famous pop band) 911!
I visited again a year later to see our friend Saracen in The Gladiators so it was quite eventful, although standing in the noisy NEC arena whilst everyone held up inflatable thumbs wasnt really the best way to see the city!
March this year, was my first visit back for a girls weekend with my friend Michelle, a devoted Aston Villa fan! First stop was the football ground so she could buy up the whole store, whilst she did that, I ventured off to find a loo meeting a lovely 80-year-old steward on my way, who took it upon himself to offer us a tour of the ground whilst we were there; much to Michelle’s absolute delight of course. That was the start of my proper love affair with the city, such friendliness before we’d even reached the town centre. We had a great time and only wished we’d had longer to party and shop!
This weekend, I got to see a bit more of the city with my friend J – we managed to cover all things a city break should; shopping, sightseeing, partying. We actually felt like we’d been away for a week we packed so much in.
I really recommend a trip to this cosmopolitan, buzzing city – its only an hour or so from London but almost feels like a different country.
