Based on the ground floor of the ME Hotel on The Strand, the restaurant is tucked away and is a bit like walking into Narnia or something because it’s a little magical; lots of twinkly lights and pretty flower arrangements.
With the decor and general feel of STK, I wasn’t expecting to hear The Pet Shop Boys blaring! That’s the appeal, it’s different. As much as it’s really sophisticated, the restaurant itself isn’t trying to be anything – its just fabulous! You actually feel like you’re in New York – as anything goes.
Most importantly of course, is the succulent, sumptuous food. If only I’d had more room to eat every last bit of it up!
A myriad of steaks are on offer – you name the steak and STK have it, all cuts, and all sizes! We opted for the medium fillet, all 300g of it and I shared a sirloin with the birthday girl’s husband as we both wanted to try both. In our excitement we probably should’ve gone for small as we couldn’t squeeze in the delicious sides. I preferred the fillet as it was so juicy; the sirloin was also juicier but crispy, obviously though that’s just down to personal choice.
Andrew ordered a selection of sides for us all to dip into, but I could only manage about 3 of the amazing parmesan truffle chips. We also had broccoli stems and macaroni cheese which was obviously a whole dinner on its own, it’s really not to be missed! I’d never really heard of macaroni cheese as a side but I would love to have it with every meal forevermore to be honest, just a shame it’s got a million calories in it.
The whole STK experience was LOVELY. I loved it so much we have booked to go and visit the STK in New York when we go in a couple of weeks for my friend Griff’s 40th.
Apparently the music is even louder; so we might end up dancing on the tables! ;)
