Three years ago after reading Belinda Jones’s book Out of the Blue, set in Elounda, Crete. I knew I had to visit the resort as it sounded so dreamful. My friend Suzie and I, took ourselves off there for a week and I immediatley fell in love with the gorgeous little town.
As you approach the village of Elounda your breath is taken away by the beauty of the place, it’s just so picturesque; a little Greek paradise. Just across the sea from Elounda is Spinalonga – a tiny island that until 1957 housed a leper colony and more recently was made famous by Victoria Hislop’s acclaimed million-copy number one bestseller The Island.
I have been back to visit Elounda twice since and I love it more each time I visit. When we visited this year we were proper tourists and jumped on the happy train for a proper tour of the area, we really couldn’t have been happier!
We also treated ourselves to a visit to the popular five-star Blue Palace Resort that overlooks the island of Spinalonga- VERY dreamy.
If you want a quick break and total escapism rolled into one, I highly recommend this Cretan dream destination.
