from Battersea Park Road to Brighton…

Sometimes when you read about something and get into it, everything that follows seems to be related to that subject. Whether our awareness just becomes heightened so we just look out for the related things or it’s just a massive coincidence I don’t know?  I do work in PR so am always attracting weird and wonderful situations but lately all the subjects seem to link in! It all started when I was browsing on Amazon and came across a book called ‘The Battersea Park Road To Paradise’.  I just loved the title of the book, I once had 5 interviews at a company based just off the Battersea Park Road and was desperate to work there, so I was kind if drawn to it for that reason.
The book is by Isabel Losada and it documents her experiences on her journey to enlightenment, I was instantly hooked by her self deprecating humour. She starts the book by exploring the world of Feng Shui and as well as being funny the chapter is really interesting, we can buy into these things or not but the subject and beliefs of Feng Shui are really fascinating.
My favourite chapter is about meditation; I have always been amazed that people can mediate, the thought of sitting in silence and zoning out has never really appealed to me, so to read Isobel’s account was engrossing as she really struggled.  I won’t give too much away but her thoughts at the end of her experience were really surprising!  Weirdly, a few days after reading this chapter and discussing it with anyone remotely interested in the subject, I had a meeting with someone through work, who coincidentally brought along with her to the meeting a Meditation Guru. I mean what are the chances?! This guy goes around the world teaching meditation and the like. I kept losing my train of thought in his company which is very unusual for me – I think I was overwhelmed by such a coincidence but also by the powerful aura he had around him. I am not particularly spiritual but am certainly becoming more open to these things. I am happy to dip my toe in the water but not quite keen enough to wade in.
I didn’t want the book to end and when it did I immediately snapped up Isabel’s first book ‘From Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment’ and once again I was addicted.  I don’t know whether these books have come along at a time in my life when I should be opening up to new and different experiences but almost everything Isabel touches on I am kind of touching on in my life ( maybe not the tantric sex chapter!), and these situations (too long to list) keep arising at the same time I read a chapter!
There is a book called The Celestine Prophecy that you may have heard off; I have never read it as it’s a bit heavy for me, but it sort of implies that life is a string of coincidences leading us on our path. Whether we believe stuff like that or not, it’s certainly intriguing.
If you are looking for some enlightenment or just a giggle, please do give these books a read. All knowledge is useful after all! ;) x

Thank you LV :-) I'm so glad that you enjoyed these books. Yes I am to entertain my readers first and foremost – any enlightenment is probably purely accidental. :-) There are 2 others – one about Changing the World (my favourite) 'For Tibet, With Love' and one called 'Men!' which is about why a good man is so hard to fin. ha ha. The last is a flawed book I think but one witty friend said, 'Well, it's a flawed subject.' Hope 'Paradise' and 'Enlightenment' inspire you to try crazy things that you would otherwise have been too sane to consider. xxx isabel
