I’m off to New York in 4 days to celebrate my friend Griff’s 40th birthday.
It’s going to be my second visit to the Big Apple, my first as a single laydeee – not that I’m going over to find a husband but I think it will be a slightly different trip to the last one which was over Valentine’s Day with my ex boyfriend and tagging along on a school trip (that’s another story).
The last time I visited New York there were ice storms so despite slushing around every inch of Manhattan we didn’t quite make it to a couple of places. I really wanted to see Upper East Side where Sex and the City’s Carrie lived in the show and I missed most of Central Park as it was covered in snow, even the ice rink was closed due to bad weather.
So you can imagine my excitement that this time we have booked to go on the 3 hour Sex and the City tour and have planned to embrace a little picnic in Central Park. How dreamy!
Those of us that love Sex and the City have a favourite episode, mine is Episode 18 Season 4: “I Heart NY”. The episode is based on the seasons changing and the events that happen in Carrie’s life at the same time.
Some of my favourite Carrie quotes are in this episode. Big tells her he is leaving New York and she replies ‘You cant leave New York, you’re the Chrysler building!’ Then they dance to Moon River which is just so romantic.
This is the first time in the series that I started to love Big; Miranda goes in to labour and Carrie has to cut short her horse and carriage ride around Central Park with Big. As she walks away Big calls her, she turns and he just gives her his trademark wink. Perfect moment!
Carrie ends the episode with my fave quote – I love it because it’s so true…

‘Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course we wouldn’t fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it’s comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.’
