Jackie Collins was on TV the other day and was explaining that her first book, published in 1968, was still flying off the book shop shelves – amazing! The book is called ‘the world is full of married men’, I guess its an opinion that many of us women share.
When I was snug in a relationship I never even noticed, now it seems they are everywhere, closing in on me. ;)
An example of this occurred a couple of weeks ago when Melissa and I and a couple of friends were joined on a night out by surfer dude and his friend, who happens to be my hot neighbour.
Hot neighbour is cute and apart from him thinking I was 22 (which I thought was slightly far fetched), seemed quite young and fun. I have seen him with his girlfriend a few times but for some unknown reason I had it in my head that he didn’t even live with her and that maybe they were just seeing each other, I love my wild imagination!
So, after talking absolute nonsense to him for 5 mins, I asked him something about his girlfriend, (I can’t even remember what, just small talk), he corrected me by saying ‘my wife’. I tried to hide my shock by carrying on talking.
I could see out of the corner of my eye Melissa and my other friend trying to stifle their giggles. It took all my restraint not to shout in a dramatic movie style fashion ‘Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!’ I refrained of course.
I was then subjected then to a small lecture from Melissa (who I must add, is 12 years younger than me) that I must be more observant and that I must always look at the left hand. Always!!
But really….are all the cute ones taken? I am all for a happy ending and as delighted as I am for all these lovely married men that they have found theirs, I am starting to get a bit anxious when talking to a member of the opposite sex. So many things to remember: look at the ring, make sure they aren’t weird, married, gay; the list is endless. Being single is quite exhausting!
